✧ He attended a khutbah one day delivered by Samurah b. Jundub, and in his khutbah he mentioned a hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Samurah said: While I and a boy from the Anṣār were one day shooting at a target of ours during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the sun was about two or three spear-lengths above the horizon, in the eyes of an observer, it became dark. One of us said to his companion, 'Let us go to the mosque, for by Allah, this sun will surely bring about something new for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his ummah.' He said: So we hurried to the mosque and met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and there he was, having just come out to the people. He said: He stepped forward and led us in prayer, and it was the longest standing he ever led us in, and we did not hear any sound from him. Then he prostrated, and it was the longest prostration we had ever made in any prayer, and we did not hear any sound from him. Then he sat in the second rakʿah, and it was likewise. He said: The clearing of the sun coincided with his sitting in the second rakʿah, and then he said the taslim.
