✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Asr, then entered my house and prayed two rak'ahs. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, you prayed a prayer you did not used to pray." He said: "Some wealth came to me and distracted me from two rak'ahs I used to pray before Asr, so I prayed them now." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, should we make them up if we miss them?" He said: "No."

machine translationḤammād b. Salamah narrated from al-Azraq b. Qays, from Dhakwān, from Umm Salamah, who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ prayed the ʿAṣr prayer, then entered my house and prayed two rakʿahs. I said: O Messenger of God, you have prayed a prayer you did not used to pray. He said: "Some wealth came to me and it kept me busy from the two rakʿahs that I used to pray after the Ẓuhr, so I have prayed them now." I said: O Messenger of God, shall we make them up if we miss them? He said: "No." Imam Aḥmad and Ibn Ḥibbān in his Ṣaḥīḥ recorded it, and its chain is good (jayyid). al-Dāraquṭnī said: It was also narrated from Dhakwān from ʿĀʾishah from the Prophet ﷺ, and from Dhakwān from ʿĀʾishah from Umm Salamah from the Prophet ﷺ. al-Bayhaqī declared it weak (ḍaʿīf) without proof in his book al-Maʿrifah, and he recorded it in his book al-Sunan from the narration of Dhakwān from ʿĀʾishah, who said: Umm Salamah narrated to me, and she mentioned the hadith. al-Athram and al-Bayhaqī gave preference to the version of those who narrated it from Ḥammād, from al-Azraq, from Dhakwān, from ʿĀʾishah, from Umm Salamah.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationI do not know of anyone who brought this wording other than ʿUbaydah b. Muʿattib, and he is weak (ḍaʿīf). I (Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī) say: The narration of Dhakwān supports it and bears witness to it.
