أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَخْبَرَهُ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ طَرَقَهُ فَقَالَ «أَلَا تُصَلُّونَ؟ » فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا أَنْفُسُنَا بِيَدِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنَا بَعَثَنَا فَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ قُلْتُ ذَلِكَ وَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ إِلَيَّ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ يَضْرِبُ بِيَدِهِ وَيَقُولُ {وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا}

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me (at night) and said, “Will you not pray?” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, our souls are in Allah’s hand; if He wills to raise us, He raises us.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ left when I said that and did not reply to me with anything. Then I heard him striking his hand and saying, “{Man is the most disputatious of all things}” (18:54).
