✧ "We traveled with the Messenger of God ﷺ until, when we were in the evening and drew near the watering places of the Arabs, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Who is a man who will go ahead of us, reach the pool, drink, and give us water?' Jābir said: So I stood up and said: 'Here is a man, O Messenger of God.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Which man is with Jābir?' Jabbār b. Ṣakhr stood up. We went to the well, drew a bucket or two into the pool, then plastered it, then drew water into it until we filled it. The first to appear to us was the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: 'Do you two permit?' We said: 'Yes, O Messenger of God.' He let his she-camel drink, and she drank; then he held back the rope for her, and she urinated; then he turned her aside and made her kneel. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ came to the pool and performed ablution from it. Then I stood up and performed ablution from the place where the Messenger of God ﷺ had performed ablution. Jabbār b. Ṣakhr went to relieve himself. The Messenger of God ﷺ stood up to pray. I had on a burdah, and I tried to bring its two ends together, but it was not long enough for me. It had fringes, so I turned it down, then brought its two ends together, and came and stood to the left of the Messenger of God ﷺ. He took my hand, turned me around, and made me stand on his right. Then Jabbār b. Ṣakhr came, performed ablution, and came and stood to the left of the Messenger of God ﷺ. He took both of us by the hand, pushed us, and made us stand behind him. The Messenger of God ﷺ kept glancing at me while I was unaware; then I noticed. He said: 'Like this'—and he gestured with his hand—'tie it.' When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished, he said: 'O Jābir.' I said: 'At your service, O Messenger of God.' He said: 'When your garment is wide, bring its two ends together; and if it is narrow, tie it around your waist.'"
