أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ وَكَانَ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَصَلَّى خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ لِلرَّجُلِ «أَيُّهُمَا جَعَلْتَ صَلَاتَكَ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ وَحْدَكَ أَوِ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا؟ »

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ prayed the dawn prayer [fajr]. Then a man came and prayed two rakʿahs of the dawn prayer behind him, then joined the congregation. When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished his prayer, he said to the man: "Which of them did you make your prayer: the one you prayed alone, or the one you prayed with us?"
