أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حَازِمٍ
أَنَّ رِجَالًا أَتَوْا سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ وَقَدِ امْتَرَوْا فِي الْمِنْبَرِ مِمَّ عُودُهُ؟ فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَأَعْرِفُ مِمَّ هُوَ وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَوَّلَ يَوْمٍ جَلَسَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى فُلَانَةً امْرَأَةٌ سَمَّاهَا سَهْلٌ أَنْ مُرِي غُلَامَكِ النَّجَّارَ أَنْ يَعْمَلَ لِي أَعْوَادًا أَجْلِسُ عَلَيْهَا إِذَا كَلَّمْتُ النَّاسَ فَأَمَرَتْهُ فَعَمِلَهَا مِنْ طَرْفَاءِ الْغَابَةِ ثُمَّ جَاءَ بِهَا فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَوَضَعَتْ هَاهُنَا ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا وَكَبَّرَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهَا وَرَكَعَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهَا وَرَفَعَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهَا وَتَوَلَّى الْقَهْقَرِيَ فَسَجَدَ وَرَقَى عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا صَنَعْتُ هَذَا لِتَأْتَمُّوا وَلِتَعْلَمُوا صَلَاتِي»

✧ Some men came to Sahl b. Sa'd, having disputed about the pulpit: of what wood was it? They asked him about that, and he said, 'By Allah, I know what it is made of, and I saw the first day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat on it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to a woman—Sahl named her—that she should order her carpenter servant to make me wooden planks to sit on when I speak to the people. She ordered him, and he made them from tamarisk of al-Ghaba. Then he brought them, and she sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he ordered them to be placed here. Then I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray on it, say takbir while on it, bow while on it, rise while on it, then move backward and prostrate, and he ascended the pulpit. When he finished, he faced the people and said, 'O people, I did this only so that you may follow me and learn my prayer.'
