✧ The obligatory congregational prayer and the excuses that allow skipping it

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارِ بْنِ الرَّيَّانِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ بْنِ قُدَامَةَ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ قَالَ

سَأَلَنِي أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ أَيْنَ مَسْكَنُكَ؟ قُلْتُ فِي قَرْيَةٍ دُونَ حِمْصٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ فِي قَرْيَةٍ وَلَا بَدْوٍ لَا تُقَامُ فِيهِمُ الصَّلَاةُ إِلَّا اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَعَلَيْكَ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ فَإِنَّمَا يَأْكُلُ الذِّئْبُ الْقَاصِيَةَ»

✧ Abu al-Darda' asked me, 'Where do you live?' I said, 'In a village near Hims.' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There are not three people in a village or desert among whom the prayer is not established except that Satan has gained mastery over them. So keep to the congregation, for the wolf eats only the stray sheep.'
