✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ murmured something we did not understand. He said: “Did you notice me?” We said: Yes. He said: “I mentioned a prophet among the prophets who was given armies from his people. He said: ‘Who will stand against these?’ Allah revealed to him: ‘Choose for your people one of three: either I send upon them an enemy from other than them, or hunger, or death.’ He consulted his people about that. They said: ‘You are the prophet of Allah; we entrust that to you; choose for us.’ He stood for his prayer—and they, when they were frightened, resorted to prayer—and he prayed as long as Allah willed. Then he said: ‘O Lord, as for an enemy from other than them, and hunger, no; but death.’ So death was sent upon them for three days, and seventy thousand of them died. The murmuring you see from me is that I say: ‘O Allah, by You I fight, and by You I attack, and there is no might and no power except by Allah.’”
