Sahih Ibn Hibban 19

✧ Chapter: The Mention of How the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Used to Instruct His Ummah in Matters Pertaining to Their Religion, Both Verbally and Practically.

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ

«إِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ سُؤَالُهُمْ وَاخْتِلَافُهُمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ وَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ»

✧ Those before you were destroyed only by their questioning and their disagreement with their prophets. So when I forbid you from something, avoid it, and when I command you with something, do of it what you are able.
