✧ That ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz delayed the prayer one day during his rule, so ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr entered upon him and informed him that al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah delayed the prayer one day while he was in Kūfah, and Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī entered upon him and said: “O Mughīrah, what is this? Do you not know that Jibrīl, the blessings of Allah upon him, descended and prayed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed, then he prayed and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed, then he prayed and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed, then he prayed and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed, then he prayed and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed,” then he said: “With this I have been commanded.” He said: “Do I not know what you are saying, O ʿUrwah, that Jibrīl established for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the time of prayer?” He said: “That is how Bashīr b. Abī Masʿūd narrated from his father.”
