✧ I was sitting with 'Abdullah and Abu Musa, and Abu Musa said, "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, a man becomes junub and does not find water—should he pray?" He said, "No." He said, "Do you not remember what 'Ammar said to 'Umar: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me and you, and I became junub, so I rolled in the dust, then came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He said, 'It would have sufficed you to do like this,' and he struck the ground with his hand, then wiped his face and palms." He said, "I did not see 'Umar satisfied with that." He said, "What do you do with this verse: {And if you do not find water, then perform tayammum with clean earth}?" He said, "Indeed, if we granted them this concession, one of them would, when he found the water cold, perform tayammum with clean earth." Ya'la added: Al-A'mash said: I said to Shaqiq, "This was only because of that."
