Sahih Ibn Hibban 1301

Translation

✧ "What prevented you, O so-and-so, from praying with the people?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I was afflicted by major ritual impurity and there is no water." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Use clean earth, for it suffices you." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled on, and the people complained to him of thirst. He said: So he dismounted and summoned so-and-so—Abu Raja' used to name him but 'Awf forgot it—and summoned 'Ali, and said, "Go and search for water for us." They met a woman between two water skins, or two flat leather water bags, full of water on a camel of hers. They said to her, "Where is water?" She said, "My last sighting of water was yesterday at this hour, and our men have gone out to seek water." He said: So they said to her, "Come with us, then." She said, "To where?" They said, "To the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." She said, "This one who is called the Sabian?" They said, "He is the one you mean; so come with us, then." They brought her to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and related the story to him. He said: So they made her dismount from her camel, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a vessel, into which he poured from the mouths of the two water skins, or the two flat leather water bags. He tied their mouths and loosened the spouts, and it was announced among the people: "Draw water and give water." He said: So he gave drink to whom he wished, and drew water for whom he wished. The last of that was that the one who had been afflicted by major ritual impurity was given a vessel of water, and he said, "Go and pour it over yourself." He said: And she was standing watching what was being done with her water. He said: By Allah, when it was lifted from her, it seemed to us that it was more full than when it was first started with. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Gather food for her." He said: So they gathered for her from pressed dates, flour, and barley meal until they had gathered much food for her. They placed it in a cloth and mounted her on her camel, and put the cloth before her. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Do you know that, by Allah, we did not diminish anything from your water? But it was Allah who gave us to drink." He said: So she came to her people, having been detained from them. They said, "What detained you, O so-and-so?" She said, "The wonder: two men met me and took me to this one who is called the Sabian, and he did such and such with me. By Allah, he is either the greatest sorcerer between this and this, or he is truly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said: After that, the Muslims used to raid the polytheists around her, but they would not strike the small group of tents in which she was. She said to her people, "By Allah, these people are deliberately leaving you alone. Would you accept Islam?" They obeyed her and entered Islam.
