Chain of narrators

machine translationIbn Fuḍayl narrated to us, from ʿAṭāʾ b. al-Sāʾib, who said:

Machine translation, not reviewed

I entered the mosque, and there were two elders, one of whom was reciting the Qur'an to his companion. I sat with them, and one of them was Qays b. Sakan al-Asadī, while the other was reciting Sūrat Maryam to him. When he reached the verse of prostration, Qays said to him: "Leave it, for we dislike that the people of the mosque should see us." So he left it and recited what came after it. Then Qays said: "By Allah, nothing turned us away from it except Satan! Recite it." So he recited it and we prostrated. When we raised our heads, Qays said to him: "Do you know what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he prostrated?" He said: "Yes, he used to say: 'My face has prostrated to the One who created it, and split open its hearing and its sight.'" He said: "You have spoken truly. And it has reached me that David used to say: 'My face has prostrated, rubbed in the dust, to my Creator, and he deserves it.'" Then he said: "Glory be to Allah! How much the words of the prophets resemble one another!"
