حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ:
أَخْبَرَنِي رَجُلٌ شَهِدَ صِفِّينَ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا خَرَجَ فِي بَعْضِ تِلْكَ اللَّيَالِيِ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَى أَهْلِ الشَّامِ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلَهُمْ، فَأُتِيَ عَمَّارٌ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ: جُرُّوا لَهُ الْخَطِيرَ مَا جَرَّهُ لَكُمْ. يَعْنِي: سَعْدًا رَحِمَهُ اللهُ

Then ʿAmmār was approached and this was mentioned to him, and he said: "Drag the stake for him as long as he drags it for you." He meant Saʿd, may Allāh have mercy on him.
