The Prophet ﷺ said on the day of the conquest of Mecca: "Hold back your weapons, except for Khuzāʿah against Banū Bakr." So he permitted them until they prayed the ʿAṣr prayer, then he said to them: "Hold back your weapons." The next day a man from Khuzāʿah met a man from Banū Bakr and killed him at al-Muzdalifah. That reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he stood up to deliver a sermon and said: "The most hostile of people toward Allah are he who kills in the Sacred Sanctuary, he who kills someone other than his killer, and he who kills for the blood-vengeance of the Jāhiliyyah."
