حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ لَمَّا أَتَوُا الْمَنْزِلَ، وَقَدْ جَلَا أَهْلُهُ أَجْهَضُوهُمْ، وَقَدْ بَقِيَ رَجَاجٌ [١]فِي الْمَعْدِنِ فَكَانَ بَيْنَ غِلْمَانٍ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، وَغِلْمَانٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، قِتَالٌ، فَقَالَ غِلْمَانٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ: يَا لَلْمُهَاجِرِينَ، وَقَالَ غِلْمَانٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يَا لَلْأَنْصَارِ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أُبَيٍّ ابْنَ سَلُولَ فَقَالَ: أَمَا وَاللهِ لَوْ أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُنْفِقُوا عَلَيْهِمُ انْفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِهِ، أَمَا وَاللهِ: ﴿لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الأَذَلَّ ﴾. فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِالرَّحِيلِ فَكَأَنَّهُ [٢]يَشْغَلُهُمْ، فَأَدْرَكَ رَكْبًا مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ فِي الْمَسِيرِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: أَلَمْ تَعْلَمُوا مَا قَالَ الْمُنَافِقُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ ؟ قَالُوا: وَمَاذَا قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: قَالَ: أَمَا وَاللهِ لَوْ لَمْ تُنْفِقُوا عَلَيْهِمْ لَانْفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِهِ، أَمَا وَاللهِ لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ، قَالُوا: صَدَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَأَنْتَ وَاللهِ الْعَزِيزُ وَهُوَ الذَّلِيلُ

That when the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, during the expedition of Banū al-Muṣṭaliq, came to the halting place, its people had already departed, and they hurried them off, while some commotion [1] remained at the watering place. A fight broke out between some boys of the Muhājirīn and some boys of the Anṣār. The boys of the Muhājirīn said: "O Muhājirīn!" and the boys of the Anṣār said: "O Anṣār!" That reached ʿAbdullāh b. Ubayy b. Salūl, and he said: "By Allah, if they had not spent on them, they would have dispersed from around him. By Allah: ﴿لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الأَذَلَّ﴾." That reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he ordered them to set out, and it was as though [2] he was keeping them occupied. He came upon a group of riders from Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal on the march and said to them: "Do you not know what the hypocrite ʿAbdullāh b. Ubayy said?" They said: "And what did he say, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "He said: By Allah, if you had not spent on them, they would have dispersed from around him. By Allah, if we return to Medina, the mightier will surely drive out the weaker from it." They said: "He has spoken truly, O Messenger of Allah. By Allah, you are the mighty one and he is the lowly one."
