حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا قَدِمَ عُمَرُ الشَّامَ أَتَتْهُ الْجُنُودُ وَعَلَيْهِ إِزَارٌ، وَخُفَّانِ، وَعِمَامَةٌ، وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِرَأْسِ بَعِيرِهِ يَخُوضُ الْمَاءَ، فَقَالُوا: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ! تَلْقَاكَ الْجُنُودُ وَبَطَارِقَةُ الشَّامِ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْحَالِ ! قَالَ: فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: إِنَّا قَوْمٌ أَعَزَّنَا اللهُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ، فَلَنْ نَلْتَمِسَ الْعِزَّ بِغَيْرِهِ
