حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ:
لَمَّا أَسْلَمَ عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ أَبِي جَهْلٍ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ: فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَاللهِ لَا أَتْرُكُ مَقَامًا قُمْتُهُ لِأَصُدَّ بِهِ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللهِ إِلَّا قُمْتُ مِثْلَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَلَا أَتْرُكُ نَفَقَةً أَصُدُّ [١]بِهَا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللهِ إِلَّا أَنْفَقْتُ مِثْلَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْيَرْمُوكِ نَزَلَ فَتَرَجَّلَ فَقَاتَلَ قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا فَقُتِلَ، فَوُجِدَ بِهِ بِضْعٌ وَسَبْعُونَ مِنْ بَيْنِ طَعْنَةٍ وَضَرْبَةٍ وَرَمْيَةٍ

When ʿIkrimah b. Abī Jahl accepted Islam, he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of God, by God, I will not leave any standing place in which I stood to turn people away from the path of God without standing in its like in the path of God, and I will not leave any expenditure by which I turned [people] away from the path of God without spending the like of it in the path of God." On the day of al-Yarmūk he dismounted and fought on foot, fighting fiercely, and was killed. More than seventy wounds were found on him, from stabs, strikes and arrows.
