حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ وَاصِلٍ الْأَحْدَبِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ: جَلَسْتُ إِلَى شَيْبَةَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ لِي:
جَلَسَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ مَجْلِسَكَ هَذَا فَقَالَ لِي: لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ لَا أَدَعَ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا قَسَمْتُهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ: لَيْسَ ذَلِكَ إِلَيْكَ، قَدْ سَبَقَكَ صَاحِبَاكَ فَلَمْ يَفْعَلَا ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: هُمَا الْمَرْءَانِ يُقْتَدَى بِهِمَا
