حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا أَتَى مُوسَى قَوْمَهُ فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِالزَّكَاةِ، فَجَمَعَهُمْ قَارُونُ فَقَالَ: هَذَا قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ بِالصَّوْمِ وَالصَّلَاةِ وَبِأَشْيَاءَ تُطِيقُونَهَا، فَتَحْتَمِلُونَ [٢]أَنْ تُعْطُوهُ أَمْوَالَكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا " مَا نَحْتَمِلُ أَنْ نُعْطِيَهُ أَمْوَالَنَا؛ فَمَا تَرَى ؟ قَالَ: أَرَى أَنْ نُرْسِلَ إِلَى بَغِيِّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ فَنَأْمُرَهَا أَنْ تَرْمِيَهُ عَلَى رُؤُوسِ الْأَحْبَارِ وَالنَّاسِ بِأَنَّهُ أَرَادَهَا عَلَى نَفْسِهَا، فَفَعَلُوا، فَرَمَتْ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى رُؤُوسِ النَّاسِ فَدَعَا اللهَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَأَوْحَى اللهُ تَعَالَى إِلَى الْأَرْضِ أَنْ أَطِيعِيهِ؛ فَقَالَ لَهَا مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ " خُذِيهِمْ، فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ إِلَى أَعْقَابِهِمْ، فَجَعَلُوا يَقُولُونَ: يَا مُوسَى يَا مُوسَى، فَقَالَ: خُذِيهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ إِلَى رُكَبِهِمْ، قَالَ فَجَعَلُوا يَقُولُونَ: يَا مُوسَى يَا مُوسَى قَالَ: خُذِيهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ إِلَى حُجَزِهِمْ، فَجَعَلُوا يَقُولُونَ يَا مُوسَى يَا مُوسَى قَالَ [٣]: خُذِيهِمْ، فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ إِلَى أَعْنَاقِهِمْ فَجَعَلُوا يَقُولُونَ: يَا مُوسَى يَا مُوسَى [٤]، فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ فَغَيَّبَتْهُمْ، فَأَوْحَى اللهُ تَعَالَى إِلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ: يَا مُوسَى، سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي وَتَضَرَّعُوا إِلَيْكَ فَأَبَيْتَ أَنْ تُجِيبَهُمْ، أَمَا وَعِزَّتِي لَوْ إِيَايَ دَعَوْا لَأَجَبْتُهُمْ

When Moses came to his people and commanded them to pay zakāh, Qārūn gathered them and said: "This man has come to you with fasting, prayer, and things you are able to bear, but will you bear giving him your wealth?" They said: "We cannot bear giving him our wealth; so what do you think?" He said: "I think we should send for a harlot of the Children of Israel and command her to accuse him, before the heads of the rabbis and the people, of having wanted her for himself." So they did so, and she accused Moses, peace be upon him, before the people. So he supplicated to God against them, and God Almighty revealed to the earth: "Obey him." Moses, peace be upon him, said to it: "Seize them." So it seized them up to their heels, and they began to say: "O Moses, O Moses!" He said: "Seize them." So it seized them up to their knees, and they began to say: "O Moses, O Moses!" He said: "Seize them." So it seized them up to their waists, and they began to say: "O Moses, O Moses!" He said: "Seize them." So it seized them up to their necks, and they began to say: "O Moses, O Moses!" Then it seized them and swallowed them up. Then God Almighty revealed to Moses, peace be upon him: "O Moses, My servants asked you and pleaded with you, and you refused to answer them. By My might, had they called upon Me, I would have answered them."
