Concerning a woman who left behind her daughter, her son's daughter, and her mother, and she has no agnatic heirs (ʿaṣabah): her daughter receives three-fifths, her son's daughter one-fifth, and her mother one-fifth, in the ruling of ʿAlī. ʿAbdullāh ruled in her case that it is divided into twenty-four shares: the son's daughter receives from that the sixth, four shares; the mother receives a quarter of what remains, five shares; and the daughter receives three-quarters of twenty: fifteen shares. Zayd ruled in her case: the daughter receives the half, the son's daughter the sixth, and the mother the sixth, and whatever remains goes to the public treasury (bayt al-māl) if there is no patron (walāʾ) and no agnatic heir.
