حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ زَعَمَ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ سَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ انْطَلَقُوا إِلَى خَيْبَرَ فَتَفَرَّقُوا فِيهَا، فَوَجَدُوا أَحَدَهُمْ قَتِيلًا، فَقَالُوا لِلَّذِينَ وَجَدُوهُ عِنْدَهُمْ: قَتَلْتُمْ صَاحِبَنَا، قَالُوا: مَا قَتَلْنَا وَلَا عَلِمْنَا، فَانْطَلَقُوا إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، انْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى خَيْبَرَ فَوَجَدْنَا أَحَدَنَا قَتِيلًا، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: الْكُبْرَ الْكُبْرَ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: تَأْتُونَ بِالْبَيِّنَةِ عَلَى مَنْ قَتَلَ، فَقَالُوا: مَا لَنَا بَيِّنَةٌ، قَالَ: فَيَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ، قَالُوا: لَا نَرْضَى بِأَيْمَانِ الْيَهُودِ، فَكَرِهَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُبْطِلَ دَمَهُ، فَوَدَاهُ بِمِائَةٍ مِنْ إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ

That a man from the Anṣār called Sahl b. Abī Ḥathmah informed him that a group of his people set out for Khaybar and dispersed there, and they found one of them killed. They said to those near whom they had found him: "You killed our companion." They said: "We did not kill him, and we do not know who did." So they went to the Prophet of God ﷺ and said: "O Prophet of God, we set out for Khaybar and found one of us killed." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "The eldest, the eldest!" Then he said to them: "Bring the proof against whoever killed him." They said: "We have no proof." He said: "Then they will swear to you." They said: "We are not satisfied with the oaths of the Jews." The Prophet of God ﷺ disliked that his blood should go unavenged, so he paid its blood-money with one hundred camels from the camels of charity.
