ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ بِشْرِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ:
اسْتَعْمَلَ أَبَاهُ عَلَى الطَّائِفِ وَمَخَالِيفِهَا فَكَانَ يُصَدِّقُ، فَاعْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِمْ بِالْغِذَاءِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّاسُ: إِنْ كُنْتَ مُعْتَدًّا بِالْغِذَاءِ فَخُذْ مِنْهُ، فَأَمْسَكَ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى لَقِيَ عُمَرَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِالَّذِي قَالُوا، فَقَالَ: اعْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِمْ بِالْغِذَاءِ، وَإِنْ جَاءَ بِهَا الرَّاعِي يَحْمِلُهَا عَلَى يَدِهِ، وَأَخْبِرْهُمْ أَنَّكَ تَدَعُ لَهُمُ الرُّبَّى وَالْمَاخِضَ وَالْأَكِيلَةَ وَفَحْلَ الْغَنَمِ، وَخُذِ الْعَنَاقَ وَالْجَذَعَةَ [٣]وَالثَّنِيَّةَ، فَذَلِكَ عَدْلٌ بَيْنَ خِيَارِ الْمَالِ وَالْغِذَاءِ

He appointed his father over al-Ṭā'if and its outlying districts, and he used to collect the zakāh. He counted the lambs and kids against them. The people said to him: "If you are counting the young ones against us, then take from them." So he held back from them until he met ʿUmar and told him what they had said. He said: "Count the young ones against them, even if the shepherd brings them carrying them on his arm. And tell them that you leave for them the rubbā, the mākhiḍ, the akūlah, and the stud ram, and take the ʿanāq, the jadhaʿah [3] and the thaniyyah. That is just between the best of the property and the young ones."
