The Detachment of Ḥamza b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ᴿᴬ to the Seacoast
سِرِّيَّةُ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ؓ إِلَى سَيْفِ الْبَحْرِ وَقَعَتْ عَلَى رَأْسِ سَبْعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ مِنَ الْهِجْرَةِ فِي ثَلَاثِينَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، وَقَدْ عَقَدَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِوَاءً أَبْيَضَ حَمَلَهُ أَبُو مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ، حَلِيفُ حَمْزَةَ ؓ. فَخَرَجَ يَعْتَرِضُ عِيرًا لِقُرَيْشٍ فِيهَا أَبُو جَهْلٍ فِي ثَلَاثِمِائَةِ رَجُلٍ، فَبَلَغَ سِيفَ الْبَحْرِ فَأَدْرَكَهُمْ، فَتَصَافَّوْا لِلْقِتَالِ فَحَجَزَ بَيْنَهُمْ مَجْدِيُّ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْجُهَنِيُّ وَكَانَ حَلِيفًا لِلْفَرِيقَيْنِ.
Translation
✧ The Detachment of Ḥamza b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ؓ to the Seacoast It took place at the beginning of seven months after the Hijrah, with thirty men from the Muhājirūn. The Prophet ﷺ had tied for him a white banner, which was carried by Abū Marthad al-Ghanawī, the ally of Ḥamza ؓ. He went out to intercept a caravan of Quraysh in which Abū Jahl was, with three hundred men. He reached the seacoast and overtook them. They lined up for battle, but Majdī b. ʿAmr al-Juhanī, who was an ally of both parties, intervened between them.
