Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors

Translation

✧ The seizure of the House by the tribes of Kinānah and Khuzāʿah and the expulsion of Jurhum [The oppression of Jurhum in Makkah and their expulsion by Banū Bakr] Then Jurhum acted oppressively in Makkah, and deemed lawful certain violations of its sanctity. They wronged those who entered it from outside its people, and they consumed the wealth of the Kaʿbah that was gifted to it, so their affairs became weak. When Banū Bakr b. ʿAbd Manāh b. Kinānah and Ghubshān of Khuzāʿah saw that, they resolved together to wage war against them and expel them from Makkah. They gave them notice of war, and they fought, and Banū Bakr and Ghubshān defeated them and expelled them from Makkah. In the Jāhiliyyah, Makkah would not tolerate wrongdoing or oppression within it, and no one would act wrongfully in it except that it expelled him. Thus it was called al-Nāssah, and no king who deemed its sanctity lawful desired it except that he perished on the spot. It is said that it was only called Bakkah because it would break the necks of tyrants when they committed something therein.
