Then the year 353 AH began
وَوَرَدَ الْخَبَرُ فِي رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ: أَنَّ الْغَلَاءَ بِأَنْطَاكِيَّةَ وَسَائِرِ الثُّغُورِ اشْتَدَّ حَتَّى لَمْ يُقْدَرْ عَلَى الْخُبْزِ، وَانْتَقَلَ مِنَ الثُّغُورِ إِلَى دِمَشْقَ وَغَيْرِهَا خَمْسُونَ أَلْفًا هَرَبًا مِنَ الْغَلَاءِ.
Translation
✧ The news arrived in Rabīʿ al-Awwal: that the high prices in Antioch and the rest of the frontier forts became severe, so that bread could not be obtained, and fifty thousand people moved from the frontier forts to Damascus and elsewhere, fleeing from the high prices.
