Then the year 352 AH began
فَمِنَ الْحَوَادِثِ فِيهَا: أَنَّهُ فِي الْيَوْمِ الْعَاشِرِ مِنَ الْمُحَرَّمِ أُغْلِقَتِ الْأَسْوَاقُ بِبَغْدَادَ، وَعُطِّلَ الْبَيْعُ، وَلَمْ يَذْبَحِ الْقَصَّابُونَ [وَلَا طَبَخَ الْهَرَّاسُونَ] وَلَا تَرَكَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يَسْتَقُوا الْمَاءَ، وَنُصِبَتِ الْقِبَابُ فِي الْأَسْوَاقِ، وَعَلِّقَتْ عَلَيْهَا الْمُسُوحُ، وَخَرَجَتِ النِّسَاءُ مُنْتَشِرَاتِ الشُّعُورِ يَلْطِمْنَ فِي الْأَسْوَاقِ، وَأُقِيمَتِ النَّائِحَةُ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ.
Translation
✧ Among the events in it: On the tenth day of al-Muḥarram, the markets in Baghdad were closed, selling was suspended, the butchers did not slaughter [nor did the harisa cooks cook], people did not refrain from drawing water, domes were set up in the markets, sackcloth was hung on them, women came out with disheveled hair, slapping their faces in the markets, and mourning was held for al-Ḥusayn ﷺ.
