Then the year 348 AH began
فِيهَا كَانَتْ فِتْنَةٌ بَيْنَ الرَّافِضَةِ وَأَهْلِ السُّنَّةِ ، قُتِلَ فِيهَا خَلْقٌ كَثِيرٌ، وَوَقَعَ حَرِيقٌ بِبَابِ الطَّاقِ، وَغَرِقَ فِي دِجْلَةَ خَلْقٌ كَثِيرٌ مِنَ الْحُجَّاجِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَوْصِلِ نَحْوٌ مِنْ سِتِّمِائَةِ نَفْسٍ، فَإِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ.
Translation
✧ In this year there was a civil strife between the Rāfiḍah and the People of the Sunnah, in which many people were killed. A fire broke out at Bāb al-Ṭāq, and many pilgrims from the people of al-Mawṣil, about six hundred souls, drowned in the Tigris. Verily we belong to Allah, and to Him we return.
