ذِكْرُ مَنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ مِنَ الْأَكَابِرِ 2331 - أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ : قَدِمَ مِصْرَ وَتَوَلَّى الْقَضَاءَ بِهَا، وَحَدَّثَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ بِكُتُبِهِ الْمُصَنَّفَةِ. وَتُوُفِّيَ بِمِصْرَ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْقَضَاءِ فِي رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2332 - أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، أَبُو الْحَسَنِ يُعْرَفُ بِابْنِ الْعَتَّابِ . حَدَّثَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ نَصْرٍ وَغَيْرِهِ، وَكَانَ ثِقَةً [يَفْهَمُ ]. تُوُفِّيَ فِي رَبِيعٍ الْآخَرِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2333 - إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الزَّيَّاتُ: سَمِعَ يَعْقُوبَ الدَّوْرَقِيَّ، رَوَى عَنْهُ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ، وَقَالَ: هُوَ صَدُوقٌ. تُوُفِّيَ فِي جُمَادَى الْأُولَى مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2334 - جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَحْيَى أَبُو الْفَضْلِ السَّرَّاجُ : حَدَّثَ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى وَغَيْرِهِ، وَكَانَ ثِقَةً صَالِحًا، تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2335 - حَسَّانُ بْنُ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَيْلِيُّ: أَقَامَ بِدِمْيَاطَ، وَحَدَّثَ بِهَا، وَوَلِيَ قَضَاءَهَا، وَكَانَ يَفْهَمُ مَا يَحْدُثُ. تُوُفِّيَ بِهَا فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2336 - مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذَبَارِيُّ : أَصْلُهُ مِنْ بَغْدَادَ وَسَكَنَ مِصْرَ، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ الرُّؤَسَاءِ وَالْوُزَرَاءِ وَالْكَتَبَةِ، وَصَحِبَ الْجُنَيْدَ، وَسَمِعَ الْحَدِيثَ، وَحَفِظَ مِنْهُ [شَيْئًا ] كَثِيرًا، وَتَقَدَّمَ، وَقَدْ ذَكَرُوا فِي اسْمِهِ غَيْرَ مَا قُلْنَا، فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَالَ هُوَ: أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَالَ: "الْحَسَنُ بْنُ هَمَّامٍ" وَالصَّحِيحُ مَا ذَكَرْنَا. عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّسَوِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ [أَحْمَدَ بْنَ أَحْمَدَ الرَّازِيَّ، يَقُولُ: ] سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عُمَرَ [الْجِعَابِيَّ ] الْحَافِظَ، يَقُولُ: قَصَدْتُ عَبْدَانَ الْأَهْوَازِيَّ، فَقَصَدَ مَسْجِدًا، فَرَأَيْتُ شَيْخًا وَحْدَهُ قَاعِدًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ حَسَنَ الشَّيْبَةِ، فَذَاكَرَنِي بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَتَيْ حَدِيثٍ فِي الْأَبْوَابِ، وَكُنْتُ قَدْ سُلِبْتُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ، فَأَعْطَانِي الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ عَبْدَانُ الْمَسْجِدَ وَرَآهُ اعْتَنَقَهُ وَبَشَّ بِهِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُمْ: مَنْ هَذَا الشَّيْخُ ؟ قَالُوا: هَذَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذَبَارِيُّ، فَرَأَيْتُ مِنْ حِفْظِهِ الْحَدِيثَ مَا يُتَعَجَّبُ مِنْهُ وَحَكَى [عَنْهُ ] أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: أُسْتَاذِي فِي التَّصَوُّفِ الْجُنَيْدُ، وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ وَالْفِقْهِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْحَرْبِيُّ، وَفِي النَّحْوِ ثَعْلَبٌ. قَالَ مَعْمَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ: بَلَغَنِي عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذَبَارِيِّ ] أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَنْفَقْتُ عَلَى الْفُقَرَاءِ كَذَا وَكَذَا أَلْفًا فَمَا وَضَعْتُ شَيْئًا فِي يَدِ فَقِيرٍ فَإِنِّي كُنْتُ أَضَعُ مَا أَدْفَعُ إِلَى الْفُقَرَاءِ فِي يَدِي فَيَأْخُذُهُ مِنْ يَدِي حَتَّى تَكُونَ يَدِي تَحْتَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَلَا تَكُونُ يَدِي فَوْقَ يَدِي فَقِيرٍ. قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ: أَنْشَدَنَا أَبُو طَالِبٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الدَّسْكَرِيُّ الرُّوذَبَارِيُّ: وَلَوْ مَضَى الْكُلُّ مِنِّي لَمْ يَكُنْ عَجَبًا وَإِنَّمَا عَجَبِي لِلْبَعْضِ كَيْفَ بَقِي أُدْرِكُ بَقِيَّةَ رُوحٍ فِيكَ قَدْ تَلَفَتْ قَبْلَ الْفِرَاقِ فَهَذَا آخِرُ الرَّمَقِ تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذَبَارِيُّ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ، وَقِيلَ: فِي سَنَةِ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ. 2337 - مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي الثَّلْجِ، أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْكَاتِبُ : وُلِدَ فِي سِنَةِ ثَمَانٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ، وَسَمِعَ جَمَاعَةً، وَرَوَى عَنْهُ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ، وَابْنُ شَاهِينَ، وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2338 - مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، الْمَعْرُوفُ بِخَيْرِ النُّسَّاجِ، يُكَنَّى أَبَا الْحَسَنِ : مِنْ كِبَارِ الصُّوفِيَّةِ مِنْ أَهْلِ سَامِرَّا، سَكَنَ بَغْدَادَ، وَصَحِبَ سَرِيًّا وَأَبَا حَمْزَةَ، وَتَابَ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْخَوَاصُّ وَالشِّبْلِيُّ. قَالَ أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ الْمَالِكِيُّ: كُنْتُ أَصْحَبُ خَيْرَ النُّسَّاجِ سِنِينَ كَثِيرَةً، وَرَأَيْتُ لَهُ مِنْ كَرَامَاتِ اللَّهِ مَا يَكْثُرُ ذِكْرُهُ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِي قَبْلَ وَفَاتِهِ بِثَمَانِيَةِ أَيَّامٍ: إِنِّي أَمُوتُ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ الْمَغْرِبَ، وَأُدْفَنُ يَوْمَ الْجُمْعَةِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ وَسَتَنْسَى فَلَا تَنْسَاهُ، قَالَ أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ فَأُنْسِيتُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْجُمْعَةِ فَلَقِيَنِي مَنْ خَبَّرَنِي بِمَوْتِهِ، فَخَرَجْتُ لِأَحْضُرَ جِنَازَتَهُ فَوَجَدْتُ النَّاسَ رَاجِعِينَ، فَسَأَلْتُهُمْ: لِمَ رَجَعُوا ؟ فَذَكَرُوا أَنَّهُ يُدْفَنُ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ، فَبَادَرْتُ وَلَمْ أَلْتَفِتْ إِلَى قَوْلِهِمْ فَوَجَدْتُ الْجِنَازَةَ قَدْ أُخْرِجَتْ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ، فَسَأَلْتُ مَنْ حَضَرَهُ [عَنْ حَالِهِ ] عِنْدَ خُرُوجِ رُوحِهِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّهُ لَمَّا احْتَضَرَ غُشِيَ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ فَتَحَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى نَاحِيَةِ الْبَيْتِ، وَقَالَ: قِفْ عَافَاكَ اللَّهُ [فَإِنَّمَا ] أَنْتَ عَبْدٌ مَأْمُورٌ وَأَنَا عَبْدٌ مَأْمُورٌ، وَمَا أُمِرْتَ بِهِ لَا يَفُوتُكَ وَمَا أُمِرْتُ بِهِ يَفُوتُنِي، فَدَعْنِي أَمْضِي لِمَا أُمِرْتُ بِهِ، ثُمَّ امْضِ لِمَا أُمِرْتَ بِهِ، فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ لِلصَّلَاةِ وَصَلَّى ثُمَّ تَمَدَّدَ وَغَمَّضَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَتَشَهَّدَ ثُمَّ مَاتَ. وَأَخْبَرَنِي بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا أَنَّهُ رَآهُ فِي النَّوْمِ، فَقَالَ: مَا فَعَلَ اللَّهُ بِكَ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا تَسْأَلْنِي أَنْتَ عَنْ ذَا، وَلَكِنِ اسْتَرَحْنَا مِنْ دُنْيَاكُمُ الْوَضِرَةِ. بَلَغَ خَيْرُ النُّسَّاجِ مِنَ الْعُمْرِ مِائَةً وَعِشْرِينَ سَنَةً، وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2339 - مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ النُّعْمَانِيُّ : حَدَّثَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بُدَيْلٍ وَغَيْرِهِ. وَرَوَى عَنْهُ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ، مَاتَ بِالنُّعْمَانِيَّةِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2340 - يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عِيسَى بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ، أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْبَزَّازُ وَيُعْرَفُ بِالْحِرَابِ : وُلِدَ سَنَةَ سَبْعٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ، سَمِعَ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَرَفَةَ، وَعُمَرَ بْنَ شَبَّةَ. رَوَى عَنْهُ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ، وَقَالَ: كَانَ ثِقَةً مَأْمُونًا مُكْثِرًا. تُوُفِّيَ يَعْقُوبُ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمْعَةِ، وَدُفِنَ يَوْمَ الْجُمْعَةِ لِثَمَانٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ رَبِيعٍ الْآخَرِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 2341 - [يَعْقُوبُ ] بْنُ صَالِحٍ، أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ السِّيرَافِيُّ: كَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ كُتُبُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَكَانَ عِنْدَهُ حَدِيثٌ كَثِيرٌ، [وَحَدَّثَ ] وَكَانَ ثِقَةً مَأْمُونًا، كَانَ يَبِيعُ لِأَهْلِ فَارِسَ وَتُجَّارِ الْهِنْدِ أَمْتِعَتَهُمْ. تُوُفِّيَ بِمِصْرَ فِي رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ الْفَقِيهُ الْجُرْجَانِيُّ الْإِسْتِرَابَاذِيُّ وَأَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ الصُّوفِيُّ، وَاسْمُهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، ( وَقِيلَ: تُوُفِّيَ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ ) [ وَثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ ] وَمِمَّنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِيهَا: وَفِيهَا: تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ السِّجْزِيُّ أَحَدُ الْحُجَّابِ، قِيلَ: بَلَغَ مِنَ الْعُمُرِ مِائَةً وَأَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً، وَحَوَاسُّهُ جَيِّدَةٌ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the notables who died in this year 2331 - Aḥmad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Muslim b. Qutayba: He came to Egypt and assumed the judiciary there, and transmitted the books compiled by his father on his authority. He died in Egypt while he was judge in Rabīʿ al-Awwal of this year. 2332 - Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd al-Wārith, Abū al-Ḥasan, known as Ibn al-ʿAttāb. He transmitted from Yaḥyā b. Naṣr and others, and he was trustworthy [and knowledgeable]. He died in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of this year. 2333 - Isḥāq b. Muḥammad b. al-Faḍl b. Jābir, Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Zayyāt: He heard Yaʿqūb al-Dawraqī. Al-Dāraquṭnī transmitted from him, and said: He is truthful. He died in Jumādā al-Ūlā of this year. 2334 - Jaʿfar b. Aḥmad b. Yaḥyā, Abū al-Faḍl al-Sarrāj: He transmitted from Yūnus b. ʿAbd al-Aʿlā and others, and he was trustworthy and righteous. He died in this year. 2335 - Ḥassān b. Abān b. ʿUthmān, Abū ʿAlī al-Aylī: He resided in Dimyāṭ, transmitted there, and served as its judge. He was knowledgeable in what he transmitted. He died there in this year. 2336 - Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. al-Qāsim, Abū ʿAlī al-Rūdhbārī: His origin was from Baghdad, and he settled in Egypt. He was from the sons of leaders, viziers, and scribes, and he accompanied al-Junayd. He heard ḥadīth and memorized a great deal of it, and he excelled. They have mentioned a name for him other than what we said; some of them said he was Aḥmad b. Muḥammad, and others said “al-Ḥasan b. Hammām,” but the correct is what we have mentioned. From Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad b. Muḥammad al-Nasawī, who said: I heard [Aḥmad b. Aḥmad al-Rāzī say:] I heard Muḥammad b. ʿUmar [al-Jiʿābī] al-Ḥāfiẓ say: I made for ʿAbdān al-Ahwāzī, and he made for a mosque, and I saw an old man sitting alone in the mosque, handsome in his gray hair. He engaged me in reviewing more than two hundred ḥadīths on various topics. I had been robbed on the road, so he gave me what he was wearing. When ʿAbdān entered the mosque and saw him, he embraced him and rejoiced at him. I said to them: Who is this old man? They said: This is Abū ʿAlī al-Rūdhbārī. I saw from his memorization of ḥadīth what is astonishing. Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī reported from him that he used to say: My teacher in Sufism is al-Junayd, in ḥadīth and fiqh Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī, and in grammar Thaʿlab. Maʿmar b. Aḥmad al-Aṣbahānī said: It reached me from Abū ʿAlī al-Rūdhbārī that he said: I spent such-and-such thousands on the poor, and I never placed anything in the hand of a poor person; rather, I placed what I gave to the poor in my own hand, and he took it from my hand, so that my hand would be beneath their hands and my hand would not be above the hand of a poor person. Aḥmad b. ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ said: Abū Ṭālib Yaḥyā b. ʿAlī al-Daskarī al-Rūdhbārī recited to us: Even if all of me passed away, it would not be a wonder; my only wonder is for the part—how it remains. I perceive the remnant of a spirit in you that has already perished before separation; this is the last gasp. Abū ʿAlī al-Rūdhbārī died in this year, and it is said: in the year 323. 2337 - Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī al-Thalj, Abū Bakr al-Kātib: He was born in the year 238. He heard from a group, and al-Dāraquṭnī and Ibn Shāhīn transmitted from him. He died in this year. 2338 - Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl, known as Khayr al-Nassāj, whose kunya is Abū al-Ḥasan: One of the great Sufis, from the people of Sāmarrā. He resided in Baghdad and accompanied Sarī and Abū Ḥamza. In his assembly, Ibrāhīm al-Khawwāṣ and al-Shiblī repented. Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Mālikī said: I accompanied Khayr al-Nassāj for many years, and I saw from the miracles of God for him what would be lengthy to mention. However, he said to me eight days before his death: I shall die on Thursday at sunset, and I shall be buried on Friday before the prayer. You will forget it, so do not forget it. Abū al-Ḥusayn said: I forgot it until Friday, when someone met me and informed me of his death. I went out to attend his funeral, but I found the people returning. I asked them: Why have they returned? They mentioned that he would be buried after the prayer. I hurried and paid no attention to their words, and I found the bier had already been brought out before the prayer, or as he said. I asked someone who attended him about his condition at the departure of his soul, and he said: When he was in the throes of death, he lost consciousness, then opened his eyes and gestured toward a side of the house, saying: Stop, may God grant you well-being, for you are but a servant commanded, and I am a servant commanded. What you have been commanded with will not escape you, and what I have been commanded with will escape me. So let me proceed with what I have been commanded, then proceed with what you have been commanded. Then he called for water, performed ablution for prayer, prayed, then stretched out, closed his eyes, uttered the shahāda, and died. One of our companions informed me that he saw him in a dream and said: What has God done with you? He said: Do not ask me about that, but we have rested from your filthy world. Khayr al-Nassāj reached the age of one hundred and twenty years, and he died in this year. 2339 - Muḥammad b. Sulaymān b. Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. al-Ḥusayn, Abū Jaʿfar al-Bāhilī al-Nuʿmānī: He transmitted from Aḥmad b. Budayl and others. Al-Dāraquṭnī transmitted from him. He died at al-Nuʿmāniyya in this year. 2340 - Yaʿqūb b. Ibrāhīm b. Aḥmad b. ʿĪsā b. al-Bakhtarī, Abū Bakr al-Bazzāz, known as al-Ḥirāb: He was born in the year 237. He heard al-Ḥasan b. ʿArafa and ʿUmar b. Shabba. Al-Dāraquṭnī transmitted from him, and said: He was trustworthy, reliable, and prolific. Yaʿqūb died while prostrating on Thursday night, and he was buried on Friday, eight nights remaining in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of this year. 2341 - [Yaʿqūb] b. Ṣāliḥ, Abū Muḥammad al-Sīrāfī: He had the books of Abū ʿUbayd al-Qāsim b. Sallām, transmitted from ʿAlī b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. He had much ḥadīth, [and he transmitted], and he was trustworthy and reliable. He used to sell the goods of the people of Persia and the merchants of India. He died in Egypt in Rabīʿ al-Awwal of this year. In this year died ʿAbd al-Malik b. Muḥammad b. ʿAdī, Abū Nuʿaym the jurist, al-Jurjānī al-Istirābādhī, and Abū ʿAlī al-Rūdhbārī the Sufi, whose name was Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. al-Qāsim (and it is said: he died in the year 323) [and three hundred]. Among those who died in it: And in it died Abū Jaʿfar al-Sijzī, one of the chamberlains. It is said: he reached the age of one hundred and forty years, and his senses were sound.
