Translation

✧ Allah Almighty mentioned this Dhū al-Qarnayn and praised him for justice, and that he reached the easts and the wests, and ruled the regions and subdued their people, and moved among them with complete fairness and a supported, victorious, aided, conquering, and equitable authority. Allah Almighty said: “And they ask you about Dhū al-Qarnayn. Say: I shall recite to you a remembrance of him. Indeed We established him in the earth and gave him of everything a means. So he followed a means until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found near it a people. We said: O Dhū al-Qarnayn, either you punish or take concerning them good. He said: As for one who wrongs, we will punish him, then he will be returned to his Lord and He will punish him with a terrible punishment. But as for one who believes and does righteous deeds, he will have the best reward, and we will speak to him of our command with ease. Then he followed a means until, when he reached the rising place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made from it any covering. Thus, and We had encompassed what was with him in knowledge. Then he followed a means until, when he reached between the two dams, he found beneath them a people who could scarcely understand speech. They said: O Dhū al-Qarnayn, indeed Yaʾjūj and Maʾjūj are corrupters in the land, so may we assign for you a tribute on condition that you make between us and them a dam? He said: That in which my Lord has established me is better, so assist me with strength; I will make between you and them a rampart. Bring me blocks of iron until, when he had levelled between the two cliffs, he said: Blow, until, when he had made it fire, he said: Bring me, I will pour over it molten brass. So they were unable to scale it, nor were they able to pierce it. He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level, and the promise of my Lord is true.” [al-Kahf: 83–98].
