Then the Year 133 AH Began
وَفِيهَا قَتَلَ دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ مَنْ ظَفِرَ بِهِ مِنْ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ بِمَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ ، وَلَمَّا أَرَادَ قَتْلَهُمْ قَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ: يَا أَخِي إِذَا قَتَلْتَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَمَنْ تُبَاهِي بِمُلْكِهِ ؟ أَمَا يَكْفِيكَ أَنْ يَرَوْكَ غَادِيًا وَرَائِحًا فِيمَا يُذِلُّهُمْ وَيَسُوؤُهُمْ ؟ فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ مِنْهُ وَقَتَلَهُمْ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ، وَاسْتَخْلَفَ حِينَ حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ ابْنَهُ مُوسَى وَلَمَّا بَلَغَتِ السَّفَّاحَ وَفَاتُهُ اسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَى مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ وَالطَّائِفِ وَالْيَمَامَةِ خَالَهُ زِيَادَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُدَانِ الْحَارِثِيَّ.
Translation
✧ In that year, Dāwūd b. ʿAlī killed those of the Banū Umayyah whom he captured in Makkah and Madinah. When he intended to kill them, ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan said to him: “O my brother, if you kill these people, then with whose kingdom will you vie in glory? Is it not enough for you that they see you going and coming in a manner that humiliates them and grieves them?” But he did not accept that from him and killed them. In that year, Dāwūd b. ʿAlī died in Madinah in the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal. When death came upon him, he appointed his son Mūsā as successor. When his death reached al-Saffāḥ, he appointed over Makkah, Madinah, al-Ṭāʾif, and al-Yamāmah his maternal uncle Ziyād b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd al-Mudān al-Ḥārithī.
