The Year Seventy of the Hijrah
وَفِي سنة سبعين وَقْعُ الْوَبَاءُ بِمِصْرَ، فَهَرَبَ مِنْهُ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ إِلَى الشَّرْقِيَّةِ، فَنَزَلَ حُلْوَانَ وَهِيَ عَلَى مَرْحَلَةٍ مِنَ الْقَاهِرَةِ وَاتَّخَذَهَا مَنْزِلًا وَاشْتَرَاهَا مِنَ الْقِبْطِ بِعَشَرَةِ آلَافِ دِينَارٍ، وَبَنَى بِهَا دَارًا لِلْإِمَارَةِ، وَجَامِعًا، وَأَنْزَلَهَا الْجُنْدَ.
Translation
✧ And in the year seventy the plague occurred in Egypt, so ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Marwān fled from it to al-Sharqiyyah, and he alighted at Ḥulwān, which is one stage from Cairo, and he took it as a dwelling and bought it from the Copts for ten thousand dinars, and he built there a residence for the emirate and a congregational mosque, and he settled the troops there.
