اسْتِعْمَالِ مُصْعَبٍ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ عَزَلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَخَاهُ عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَاسْتَعْمَلَ أَخَاهُ مُصْعَبًا. وَسَبَبُ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَةَ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ، فَقَالَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ: وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُمْ مَا صَنَعَ اللَّهُ بِقَوْمِ صَالِحٍ فِي نَاقَةٍ قِيمَتُهَا خَمْسُمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ. فَلَمَّا بَلَغَتْ أَخَاهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ التَّكَلُّفُ وَعَزَلَهُ، فَسُمِّيَ مُقَوِّمَ النَّاقَةِ.
Translation
✧ The appointment of Muṣʿab over Madinah In this year, ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Zubayr dismissed his brother ʿUbaydah b. al-Zubayr from Madinah and appointed his brother Muṣʿab. The reason for that was that ʿUbaydah addressed the people and said in his sermon: "And you have seen what Allah did to the people of Ṣāliḥ regarding a she-camel whose value was five hundred dirhams." When this reached his brother, he said: "This is indeed affectation," and dismissed him. Thus he was named 'the valuer of the she-camel'.
