The caliphate of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb
فِي سنة عشرين زُلْزِلَتِ الْمَدِينَةُ. فعَنْ صَفِيَّةَ قَالَتْ: زُلْزِلَتِ الْمَدِينَةُ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُمَرَ ؓ، فَقَالَ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، مَا أَسْرَعَ مَا أَحْدَثْتُمْ، لَئِنْ عَادَتْ لَا أُسَاكِنُكُمْ فِيهَا.
Translation
✧ In the year twenty, al-Madinah was shaken by an earthquake. It is reported from Ṣafiyyah that she said: Al-Madinah was shaken by an earthquake during the caliphate of ʿUmar ؓ, and he said: “O people, how quickly you have introduced innovations! If it returns, I will not dwell among you in it.”
