The story of Hud (peace be upon him)
قصة هود في سورة الأعراف قَالَ تَعَالَى بَعْدَ ذِكْرِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ، وَمَا كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ فِي سُورَةِ الْأَعْرَافِ: وَإِلَى عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًا قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَهٍ غَيْرُهُ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ قَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ إِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِي سَفَاهَةٍ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِي سَفَاهَةٌ وَلَكِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ أُبَلِّغُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي وَأَنَا لَكُمْ نَاصِحٌ أَمِينٌ أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ أَنْ جَاءَكُمْ ذِكْرٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ لِيُنْذِرَكُمْ وَاذْكُرُوا إِذْ جَعَلَكُمْ خُلَفَاءَ مِنْ بَعْدِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَزَادَكُمْ فِي الْخَلْقِ بَسْطَةً فَاذْكُرُوا آلَاءَ اللَّهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا لِنَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ وَحْدَهُ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ قَالَ قَدْ وَقَعَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ رِجْسٌ وَغَضَبٌ أَتُجَادِلُونَنِي فِي أَسْمَاءٍ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ فَانْتَظِرُوا إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الْمُنْتَظِرِينَ فَأَنْجَيْنَاهُ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنَّا وَقَطَعْنَا دَابِرَ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَمَا كَانُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ [ الْأَعْرَافِ: 65 - 72 ]. قصة هود في سورة هود وَقَالَ تَعَالَى بَعْدَ ذِكْرِ قِصَّةِ نُوحٍ فِي سُورَةِ هُودٍ: وَإِلَى عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًا قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَهٍ غَيْرُهُ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا مُفْتَرُونَ يَا قَوْمِ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى الَّذِي فَطَرَنِي أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ وَيَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا وَيَزِدْكُمْ قُوَّةً إِلَى قُوَّتِكُمْ وَلَا تَتَوَلَّوْا مُجْرِمِينَ قَالُوا يَا هُودُ مَا جِئْتَنَا بِبَيِّنَةٍ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِتَارِكِي آلِهَتِنَا عَنْ قَوْلِكَ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنْ نَقُولُ إِلَّا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ قَالَ إِنِّي أُشْهِدُ اللَّهَ وَاشْهَدُوا أَنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ مِنْ دُونِهِ فَكِيدُونِي جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ لَا تُنْظِرُونِ إِنِّي تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمْ مَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ مَا أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفُ رَبِّي قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ وَلَا تَضُرُّونَهُ شَيْئًا إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَفِيظٌ وَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا هُودًا وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنَّا وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ وَتِلْكَ عَادٌ جَحَدُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَعَصَوْا رُسُلَهُ وَاتَّبَعُوا أَمْرَ كُلِّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ وأُتْبِعُوا فِي هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا لَعْنَةً وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَلَا إِنَّ عَادًا كَفَرُوا رَبَّهُمْ أَلَا بُعْدًا لِعَادٍ قَوْمِ هُودٍ [ هُودٍ: 50 - 60 ]. قصة هود في سورة المؤمنون وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ: قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ بَعْدَ قِصَّةِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ: ثُمَّ أَنْشَأْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا آخَرِينَ فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِنْهُمْ أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَهٍ غَيْرُهُ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِلِقَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَاهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا مَا هَذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُمْ بَشَرًا مِثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَخَاسِرُونَ أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنْتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَنَّكُمْ مُخْرَجُونَ هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ افْتَرَى عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَيُصْبِحُنَّ نَادِمِينَ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ غُثَاءً فَبُعْدًا لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ [ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ: 31 - 41 ]. قصة هود في سورة الشعراء وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ الشُّعَرَاءِ بَعْدَ قِصَّةِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ أَيْضًا: كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ الْمُرْسَلِينَ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ آيَةً تَعْبَثُونَ وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُمْ بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي أَمَدَّكُمْ بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ أَمَدَّكُمْ بِأَنْعَامٍ وَبَنِينَ وَجَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ قَالُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُنْ مِنَ الْوَاعِظِينَ إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ. قصة هود في مواضع متفرقة من القرآن وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ حم السَّجْدَةِ: وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَقَالُوا مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي أَيَّامٍ نَحِسَاتٍ لِنُذِيقَهُمْ عَذَابَ الْخِزْيِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَخْزَى وَهُمْ لَا يُنْصَرُونَ [ فُصِّلَتْ: 15 - 16 ]. وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ الْأَحْقَافِ: وَاذْكُرْ أَخَا عَادٍ إِذْ أَنْذَرَ قَوْمَهُ بِالْأَحْقَافِ وَقَدْ خَلَتِ النُّذُرُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَأْفِكَنَا عَنْ آلِهَتِنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَأُبَلِّغُكُمْ مَا أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِ وَلَكِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُونَ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَارِضًا مُسْتَقْبِلَ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ قَالُوا هَذَا عَارِضٌ مُمْطِرُنَا بَلْ هُوَ مَا اسْتَعْجَلْتُمْ بِهِ رِيحٌ فِيهَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ تُدَمِّرُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ بِأَمْرِ رَبِّهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا لَا يُرَى إِلَّا مَسَاكِنُهُمْ كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْقَوْمَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ [ الْأَحْقَافِ: 21 - 25 ]. وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي الذَّارِيَاتِ: وَفِي عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّيحَ الْعَقِيمَ مَا تَذَرُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَالرَّمِيمِ [ الذَّارِيَاتِ: 41 - 42 ]. وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي النَّجْمِ: وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَى وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَى وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَى وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّى فَبِأَيِ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَى [ النَّجْمِ: 50 - 55 ]. وَقَالَ تَعَالَى فِي سُورَةِ اقْتَرَبَتْ: كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّ تَنْزِعُ النَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُنْقَعِرٍ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [ الْقَمَرِ: 18 - 22 ]. وَقَالَ فِي الْحَاقَّةِ: وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَى كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ فَهَلْ تَرَى لَهُمْ مِنْ بَاقِيَةٍ [ الْحَاقَّةِ: 6 - 8 ]. وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ الْفَجْرِ: أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ [ الْفَجْرِ: 6 - 14 ]. وَقَدْ جَرَى ذِكْرُ عَادٍ فِي سُورَةِ بَرَاءَةَ، وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَالْفَرْقَانِ، وَالْعَنْكَبُوتِ، وَفِي سُورَةِ ص، وَفِي سُورَةِ ق
Translation
✧ The story of Hūd in Sūrat al-Aʿrāf: Allah Almighty said after mentioning the people of Nūḥ and what happened to them in Sūrat al-Aʿrāf: "And to ʿĀd [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, 'O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Will you not fear Him?' The eminent ones who disbelieved among his people said, 'Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are among the liars.' He said, 'O my people, there is no foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds. I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser. Do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Nūḥ and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allah that you might succeed.' They said, 'Have you come to us that we should worship Allah alone and leave what our fathers worshipped? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be truthful.' He said, 'Already there has fallen upon you from your Lord defilement and anger. Do you dispute with me concerning names you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has not sent down any authority? Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait.' So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us, and We cut off the last remnant of those who denied Our signs, and they were not believers" [al-Aʿrāf 7:65–72]. The story of Hūd in Sūrat Hūd: And Allah Almighty said after mentioning the story of Nūḥ in Sūrat Hūd: "And to ʿĀd [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, 'O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. You are not but fabricators. O my people, I do not ask you for it any reward. My reward is only upon the One who created me. Will you not reason? And O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. He will send upon you rain in abundance and increase you in strength upon your strength. And do not turn away as criminals.' They said, 'O Hūd, you have not brought us clear evidence, and we are not ones to leave our gods on your word, and we are not believers in you. We only say that some of our gods have afflicted you with evil.' He said, 'Indeed, I call Allah to witness, and you bear witness, that I am free from what you associate with Him besides Him. So plot against me all together; then do not give me respite. Indeed, I have relied upon Allah, my Lord and your Lord. There is no creature but that He holds its forelock. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path. But if you turn away, then I have already conveyed to you what I was sent with to you. My Lord will cause a people other than you to succeed you, and you will not harm Him at all. Indeed, my Lord is, over all things, Guardian.' And when Our command came, We saved Hūd and those who believed with him by mercy from Us, and We saved them from a harsh punishment. And that is ʿĀd: they rejected the signs of their Lord and disobeyed His messengers and followed the command of every obstinate tyrant. And they were followed in this world with a curse and on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, ʿĀd disbelieved in their Lord. Unquestionably, away with ʿĀd, the people of Hūd" [Hūd 11:50–60]. The story of Hūd in Sūrat al-Muʾminūn: And Allah Almighty said in Sūrat "Qad aflaḥa al-muʾminūn" after the story of the people of Nūḥ: "Then We produced after them a generation of others. And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], 'Worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Will you not fear Him?' And the eminent ones among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had made them affluent in the life of this world said, 'This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats from what you eat from and drinks from what you drink. And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones, you will be brought forth? How far, how far, is that which you are promised! It is not but our worldly life: we die and we live, and we will not be resurrected. He is not but a man who has invented about Allah a lie, and we are not believers in him.' He said, 'My Lord, support me because they have denied me.' He said, 'After a little, they will surely become regretful.' So the blast seized them in truth, and We made them as foam. So away with the wrongdoing people" [al-Muʾminūn 23:31–41]. The story of Hūd in Sūrat al-Shuʿarāʾ: And Allah Almighty said in Sūrat al-Shuʿarāʾ also after the story of the people of Nūḥ: "ʿĀd denied the messengers when their brother Hūd said to them, 'Will you not fear? Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. So fear Allah and obey me. And I do not ask you for it any reward. My reward is only upon the Lord of the worlds. Do you build on every elevation a landmark, amusing yourselves, and take for yourselves fortresses that perhaps you might abide forever? And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. So fear Allah and obey me. And fear the One who has provided you with what you know: He has provided you with livestock and children, gardens and springs. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great day.' They said, 'It is all the same to us whether you admonish or are not of the admonishers. This is not but the custom of the former peoples, and we are not to be punished.' So they denied him, and We destroyed them. Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them were not believers. And indeed, your Lord—He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful." The story of Hūd in various places in the Qurʾān: And Allah Almighty said in Sūrat Ḥā Mīm al-Sajdah: "And as for ʿĀd, they were arrogant in the land without right and said, 'Who is stronger than us in might?' Did they not see that Allah who created them is stronger than them in might? And they were rejecting Our signs. So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the life of this world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgraceful, and they will not be helped" [Fuṣṣilat 41:15–16]. And Allah Almighty said in Sūrat al-Aḥqāf: "And remember the brother of ʿĀd, when he warned his people in the sand dunes, and warners had already passed before him and after him, [saying], 'Do not worship except Allah. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great day.' They said, 'Have you come to us to turn us away from our gods? Then bring us what you promise us, if you should be truthful.' He said, 'Knowledge is only with Allah, and I convey to you what I was sent with, but I see you are an ignorant people.' And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, 'This is a cloud bringing us rain.' Rather, it is what you sought to hasten: a wind within it is a painful punishment, destroying everything by command of its Lord. So they became such that nothing was seen except their dwellings. Thus do We recompense the criminal people" [al-Aḥqāf 46:21–25]. And Allah Almighty said in al-Dhāriyāt: "And in ʿĀd, when We sent upon them the barren wind. It left nothing upon which it came but made it like disintegrated ruins" [al-Dhāriyāt 51:41–42]. And Allah Almighty said in al-Najm: "And that He destroyed the first ʿĀd and Thamūd, and He did not spare, and the people of Nūḥ before. Indeed, they were more unjust and more rebellious, and the overturned towns He cast down, and covered them with what covered. So which of the favors of your Lord do you dispute?" [al-Najm 53:50–55]. And Allah Almighty said in Sūrat Iqtarabat: "ʿĀd denied, and how was My punishment and warning? Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, plucking people as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. And how was My punishment and warning? And We have certainly made the Qurʾān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?" [al-Qamar 54:18–22]. And He said in al-Ḥāqqah: "And as for ʿĀd, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind. He subjected it upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees. So do you see of them any remnant?" [al-Ḥāqqah 69:6–8]. And He said in Sūrat al-Fajr: "Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with ʿĀd, Iram of the pillars, the like of which was not created in the lands, and Thamūd, who carved the rocks in the valley, and Pharaoh of the stakes, who transgressed in the lands and increased therein corruption? So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. Indeed, your Lord is in observation" [al-Fajr 89:6–14]. ʿĀd was mentioned in Sūrat Barāʾah, Ibrāhīm, al-Furqān, al-ʿAnkabūt, in Sūrat Ṣād, and in Sūrat Qāf.
