✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and the pace of travel had spread his companions out. He raised his voice with these two verses: {O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [final] Hour is a terrible thing} [al-Hajj: 1]. Abu Musa recited up to His saying {but the punishment of Allah is severe} [al-Hajj: 2]. When his companions heard that, they urged their mounts on, knowing that he was about to say something. He said, "Do you know what day that is?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "That is the day when Adam will be called, and his Lord will call him, saying: 'O Adam, send forth the delegation of the Fire: from every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine to the Fire and one to Paradise.'" His companions were struck silent, until no one showed even a smile. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw what had befallen his companions, he said, "Work and rejoice. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are with two creations that, whenever they are with anything, they increase it greatly: Ya'juj and Ma'juj, and those who have perished from the children of Adam and the children of Iblis." Some of what the people were feeling was relieved. Then he said, "Work and rejoice. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are among people only like a mole on the flank of a camel or a spot on the foreleg of a beast." This is how Sa'id b. Abi 'Arubah narrated it from Qatadah.
