أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ أَبِي خُثَيْمٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَظَلَّتْكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ إِنَّمَا خَيْرُ النَّاسِ فِيهَا أَوْ قَالَ مِنْهَا صَاحِبُ شَاءٍ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ رَسَلِ غَنَمِهِ أَوْ رَجُلٌ وَرَاءَ الدَّرْبِ آخِذٌ بِعِنَانِ فَرَسِهِ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ سَيْفِهِ

✧ O people, a tribulation has overshadowed you like patches of the dark night. Indeed the best of people in it—or he said, from it—is a man who owns sheep, eating from the milk of his flock, or a man behind the mountain pass, holding the rein of his horse, eating from his sword.
