Notes

machine translationThis is a hadith whose narrators are Egyptians, most of whom the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) have relied upon as proof. There is none more complete than it regarding the number of prostrations of the Quran, yet they did not include it. Its narrators are Egyptians; they relied upon most of them.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn al-Qaṭṭān

machine translationThat is because of his being unknown (jahālah), meaning the statement of ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq: ʿAbdullāh b. Munayn is not to be relied upon as proof, for he is not known; none narrated from him except al-Ḥārith b. Saʿīd al-ʿUtaqī, and he is a man whose condition is not known. So because of him the hadith is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).

  • Ibn al-Qaṭṭān

machine translationAl-Ḥārith b. Saʿīd al-ʿUtaqī narrated from him, and he is the one by whom the hadith is declared defective, because he is a man whose condition is not known. Ibn Lahīʿah and Nāfiʿ b. Yazīd also narrated from him; Ibn Yūnus mentioned this in his History of Egypt. So because of him the hadith is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), even if Ibn Munayn were known.
