أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ الْغِفَارِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ ثَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ

لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَيُّ وَلَدِكَ أَكْبَرُ؟» قُلْتُ شُرَيْحٌ قَالَ «فَأَنْتَ أَبُو شُرَيْحٍ» تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ قَيْسٌ عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ وَأَنَا ذَاكِرٌ بَعْدَهُ حَدِيثًا تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ مُجَالِدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَلَيْسَا مِنْ شَرْطِ هَذَا الْكِتَابِ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Which of your children is the eldest?" I said: "Shurayh." He said: "Then you are Abu Shurayh." Qays alone reported this from al-Miqdam, and after it I will mention a hadith reported uniquely by Mujalid b. Sa'id, and neither of them meets the criterion of this book. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
