✧ Umar b. al-Khattab called for a new qamis of his and put it on. I do not think it had reached his collarbones before he said: “Praise be to Allah who clothed me with what I cover my private parts and adorn myself in my life.” Then he said, “Do you know why I said this? I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ call for new clothes and put them on. He said—I do not think they had reached his collarbones before he said the like of what I said—then he said: ‘By the One in whose hand is my soul, there is no Muslim servant who wears a new garment, then says the like of what I said, then deliberately takes a worn-out garment from his old clothes that he has put aside and clothes a poor, destitute Muslim with it, clothing him only for the sake of Allah, may He be exalted, except that he will be in Allah’s protection and under Allah’s guarantee as long as a single thread of it remains on him, alive and dead.’”
