✧ Ibn Abi al-Furat, the mawla of Usama b. Zayd, disputed with al-Hasan b. Umayya and quarreled with him. Ibn Abi al-Furat said to him in the course of their exchange, "O son of Baraka," meaning Umm Ayman. Al-Hasan said, "Bear witness," and brought the matter before Abu Bakr b. Muhammad b. 'Amr b. Hazm, who was then the qadi of Madinah, and related the story to him. Abu Bakr said to Ibn Abi al-Furat, "What did you intend by your saying to him, 'O son of Baraka'?" He said, "I called her by her name." Abu Bakr said, "You only intended by this to belittle her, while her standing in Islam is what it is, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say to her, 'O my mother, O Umm Ayman, may Allah ﷻ never let me off if I let you off.'" So he had him flogged with seventy lashes. Al-Dhahabi omitted it from the Talkhis.
