✧ Maria was gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and with her was a cousin of hers. She said: He had intercourse with her once, and she became pregnant. She said: Then he secluded her with her cousin. She said: The people of falsehood and slander said: Because of his need for a child, he claimed the child of another. His mother had little milk, so she bought for him a milking ewe, and he was fed with its milk, and his flesh became good. Aisha said: One day he was brought in to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: «How do you see him?» I said: Whoever is fed with the flesh of sheep, his flesh becomes good. He said: «And the resemblance?» She said: What carries women of jealousy carried me, so I said: I do not see a resemblance. She said: What the people were saying reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he said to Ali: «Take this sword and go and strike the neck of Maria's cousin wherever you find him.» She said: He went, and there he was in a garden on a palm tree, harvesting fresh dates. She said: When he saw Ali with the sword, trembling came upon him, and the cloth fell, and he was one for whom Allah ﷻ had not created what men have—he was emasculated. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
