✧ Juwayriyah bt. al-Harith, Mother of the Believers

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ
أَنَّ اسْمَهَا كَانَ بَرَّةَ وَغَيَّرَهُ ﷺ فَسَمَّاهَا جُوَيْرِيَةَ وَكَانَ يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يُقَالَ خَرَجَ مِنْ عِنْدِ بَرَّةَ «صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ مُسْلِمٍ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» على شرط مسلم
Translation
Chain of narrators
- Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ
- Zaynab b. Abū Salamah
- Jūwayriyah b. al-Ḥārith
✧ Her name was Barrah, and he ﷺ changed it, naming her Juwayriyah. He disliked it being said: 'He came out from Barrah.' [Al-Hakim said:] "Sahih according to the conditions of Muslim, but they did not include it." According to the condition of Muslim.
