فَحَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قُسَيْطٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
أَصَابَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَبَايَا بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ فَأَخْرَجَ الْخُمُسَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَسَمَهُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَأَعْطَى الْفَارِسَ سَهْمَيْنِ وَالرَّاجِلَ سَهْمًا فَوَقَعَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ فِي سَهْمِ ثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ شَمَّاسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ ابْنِ عَمٍّ لَهَا يُقَالُ لَهُ صَفْوَانُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جَذِيمَةَ فَقُتِلَ عَنْهَا فَكَاتَبَهَا ثَابِتُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ عَلَى نَفْسِهَا عَلَى تِسْعِ أَوَاقٍ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً حُلْوَةً لَا يَكَادُ يَرَاهَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا أَخَذَتْ بِنَفْسِهِ فَبَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عِنْدِي إِذْ دَخَلَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ تَسْأَلُهُ فِي كِتَابَتِهَا فَوَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ إِلَّا أَنْ رَأَيْتُهَا حَتَّى كَرِهْتُ دُخُولَهَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَعَرَفْتُ أَنْ سَيَرَى فِيهَا مِثْلَ الَّذِي رَأَيْتُ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنَا جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ سَيِّدِ قَوْمِهِ وَقَدْ أَصَابَنِي مِنَ الْأَمْرِ مَا قَدْ عَلِمْتَ فَوَقَعْتُ فِي سَهْمِ ثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ فَكَاتَبَنِي عَلَى تِسْعِ أَوَاقٍ فِي فِكَاكِيِ فَقَالَ «أَوَ خَيْرًا مِنْ ذَلِكَ» قَالَتْ مَا هُوَ؟ قَالَ «أُؤَدِّي عَنْكِ كِتَابَتَكِ وَأَتَزَوَّجُكِ» قَالَتْ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ «فَقَدْ فَعَلْتُ» فَخَرَجَ الْخَبَرُ إِلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالُوا أَصْهَارُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسْتَرَقُّونَ فَأَعْتَقُوا مَنْ كَانَ فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ مِنْ سَبْيِ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ فَبَلَغَ عِتْقُهُمْ مِائَةَ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ بِتَزَوُّجِهِ إِيَّاهَا قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَلَا أَعْلَمُ امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ أَعْظَمَ بَرَكَةً عَلَى قَوْمِهَا مِنْهَا وَذَلِكَ مُنْصَرَفَهُ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ الْمُرَيْسِيعِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took captives from Banu al-Mustaliq. He extracted the fifth from it, then divided it among the people, giving the horseman two shares and the foot soldier one share. Juwayriyah bint al-Harith b. Abi Dirar fell to the share of Thabit b. Qays b. Shammas al-Ansari. She had been under a paternal cousin of hers named Safwan b. Malik b. Jadhimah, who was killed, leaving her. Thabit b. Qays made a contract of manumission with her for herself for nine uqiyyah. She was a sweet woman; hardly anyone saw her except that she captivated him. While the Prophet ﷺ was with me, Juwayriyah entered asking him about her contract of manumission. By Allah, as soon as I saw her, I disliked her entering upon the Prophet ﷺ, and I knew that he would see in her what I saw. She said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am Juwayriyah bint al-Harith, chief of his people. You know what has befallen me. I fell to the share of Thabit b. Qays, and he made a contract with me for nine uqiyyah for my ransom." He said: "Or better than that?" She said: "What is it?" He said: "I will pay your contract of manumission and marry you." She said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "I have done it." The news spread to the people, and they said: "The in-laws of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ are being enslaved!" So they freed whoever was in their hands from the captives of Banu al-Mustaliq. Their manumission reached one hundred households because of his marriage to her. Aisha said: "I know of no woman who was a greater blessing to her people than her." That was upon his return from the expedition of al-Muraysi'.
