أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْقَاضِي ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ الْجُمَحِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ مَعْمَرُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ

«آبِي اللَّحْمِ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَفَّانَ وَكَانَ شَرِيفًا شَاعِرًا وَشَهِدَ فَتْحَ حُنَيْنٍ وَمَعَهُ عُمَيْرٌ مَوْلَاهُ» قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ «وَإِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ آبِيَ اللَّحْمِ لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَ اللَّحْمَ»

✧ Abi al-Lahm's name is 'Abd Allah b. 'Abd al-Malik b. 'Abd Allah b. 'Affan. He was a noble poet and witnessed the conquest of Hunayn with his freedman 'Umayr. Abu 'Ubayda said, "He was called Abi al-Lahm (the one who refuses meat) because he refused to eat meat."
