✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him: “Stretch out your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you upon Islam.” So I pledged allegiance to him. Then I said: [al-baḥr al-mutaqārib] “I have abandoned gambling arrows and the singing of slave-girls, and wine, seeking blessing and supplication; and my charging of the caparisoned horse in the midst of battle, and my bearing arms against the Muslims. O Lord, let not my pledge be cheated, for I have sold my family and my property out of dedication.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Your pledge has not been cheated, O Ḍirār.”
