حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَالَوَيْهِ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَرْبِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قُدَامَةَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ قَالَ
«رَأَيْتُ الْحَجَّاجَ بْنَ يُوسُفَ يَضْرِبُ عَبَّاسَ بْنَ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ فِي إِمَارَةِ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فَاطَّلَعَ سَهْلُ وَهُوَ فِي إِزَارٍ وَرِدَاءٍ لَهُ أَصْفَرَ فَلَمَّا أَقْبَلَ أَشَارَ الْحَجَّاجُ بِالْكَفِّ عَنِ ابْنِهِ»

✧ I saw al-Hajjaj b. Yusuf striking Abbas b. Sahl b. Sa'd during the governorship of Ibn al-Zubayr. Sahl came out, wearing a yellow waist-wrapper and cloak. When he approached, al-Hajjaj gestured with his hand to stop [the striking] of his son.
