أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ
خَطَبَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمَوْسِمِ «فَافْتَتَحَ سُورَةَ النُّورِ فَجَعَلَ يَقْرَأُ وَيُفَسِّرُ» فَجَعَلْتُ أَقُولُ مَا رَأَيْتُ وَلَا سَمِعْتُ كَلَامَ رَجُلٍ مِثْلَهُ لَوْ سَمِعَتْهُ فَارِسٌ وَالرُّومُ لَأَسْلَمَتْسكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ Ibn Abbas delivered a sermon while he was at the pilgrimage season. He began Surah al-Nur, reciting and explaining it. I kept saying, "I have never seen or heard the speech of a man like him. If the Persians and Romans had heard it, they would have embraced Islam." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
