فَأَخْبَرَنِي قَاضِي الْقُضَاةِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْهَاشِمِيُّ ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَدَايِنِيُّ ثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الثَّقَفِيُّ وَمَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ مُحَارِبٍ وَغَيْرُهُمَا قَالُوا
«لَمَّا قُتِلَ الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ بِمَرْجِ رَاهِطٍ وَكَانَ لِلنِّصْفِ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَسِتِّينَ فِي خِلَافَةِ مَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ فَأَرَادَ النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ أَنْ يَهْرُبَ مِنْ حِمْصَ وَكَانَ عَامِلًا عَلَيْهَا فَخَافَ وَدَعَا لِابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فَطَلَبَهُ أَهْلُ حِمْصَ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَاحْتَزُّوا رَأْسَهُ»
Translation

✧ “When al-Dahhak b. Qays was killed at Marj Rahit on the fifteenth of Dhu al-Hijja in the year sixty-four during the caliphate of Marwan b. al-Hakam, al-Nu’man b. Bashir wanted to flee from Hims, where he was governor, so he feared and called for Ibn al-Zubayr. The people of Hims sought him and killed him and cut off his head.”
