✧ Ka'b al-Ahbar saw Abdullah ibn Amr giving fatwas to the people and said: Who is this? They said: This is Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As. So he sent a man from his companions to him and said: Tell him: O Abdullah ibn Amr, do not fabricate lies against Allah, lest He destroy you with a punishment; and indeed he who fabricates has failed. He said: The man came to him and said that to him. Ibn Umar said: And Ka'b spoke the truth: 'He who fabricates has failed,' and he did not become angry. He said: Then Ka'b sent the man back to him and said: Ask him about the gathering—what is it? And about the souls of the Muslims—where do they assemble? And the souls of the people of polytheism—where do they assemble? So he came to him and asked him, and he said: 'As for the souls of the Muslims, they assemble at Ariha; as for the souls of the people of polytheism, they assemble at San'a; and as for the first gathering, it is a fire that drives the people—they see it at night and do not see it by day.' So Ka'b's messenger returned to him and informed him of what he had said, and he said: He has spoken the truth. This is a scholar, so ask him.
